Julia Roberts has received the 22nd annual American Cinematheque Award at a benefit dinner in Beverly Hills.
The 39-year-old actress was recognised for her contributions to the film industry at the event, which was attended by stars including Tom Hanks, Natalie Portman and Sally Field yesterday.
"I think I came along at a kinder time in the business," Roberts explained. "It wasn't about fashion, and there weren't so many media outlets, it was just kind of different. You could really cultivate your work a little more gently."
Roberts is best known for her roles in Pretty Woman, My Best Friend's Wedding and Erin Brockovich.
Julia presented the honour to her friend George Clooney at last year's event.
