New Line Cinema has bought the rights to a fact-based story about a US soldier who died in Iraq.
Jeffrey Toczylowski, nicknamed 'Toz', was an army special forces captain who died in 2005 when he fell from a helicopter.
He had earlier asked a colleague to send a pre-prepared message to his friends and family if he were to die.
It read: "If you are getting this email, it means that I have passed away. No, it's not a sick Toz joke, but a letter I wanted to write in case this happened."
It invited to them all to a party and told them about a $100,000 fund he had set up to pay for it.
The story, now entitled Time of Your Life, will be scripted by Jim Burnstein and Garrett Schiff. It will be produced by Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen of Temple Hill Entertainment.
Godfrey said of the tale: "In a world where hopelessness and cynicism rule, this family found healing through celebration, and their story reminds us of the heroism and patriotism that mark the best this country has to offer."
