The maker of Journeys With George will write a fiction film based on the Emmy-winning documentary.
Alexandra Pelosi's programme for HBO followed George W Bush's 2000 presidential campaign.
Now she has been asked to produce a script by producers Film Rite and Mandate Pictures.
Film Rite boss Steven Zaillian is producing the as-yet-untitled project with Pelosi. Mandate's Nathan Kahane and Joe Drake will executive produce with Garrett Basch.
It will follow a young, impressionable female news producer struggling with work and life while covering a presidential campaign.
Zaillian said he urged Pelosi to write a screenplay after seeing the potential in Journeys With George: "Alexandra is a talented documentary filmmaker and a great raconteur.
"She's been places and seen and done things few of the rest of us have, and I'm excited she's decided to share her insider perspective and gift for storytelling with us in a screenplay."
Pelosi is a former NBC news producer and has made several documentaries.
