Alanis Morissette has landed a role in the adaptation of Philip K. Dick's novel Radio Free Albemuth.

The singer will play the part of Sylvia, who appears in a record executive's dream before entering his real life and becoming his secretary and soulmate.

Morissette told Billboard: "I am a big fan of Philip K. Dick's poetic and expansively imaginative books.

"I feel blessed to portray Sylvia, and to be part of this story being told in film."

The Canadian has previously starred in episodes of Nip/Tuck, Sex And The City and in the Kevin Smith movie Dogma.

Dick's novels Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? and We Can Remember It For You Wholesale inspired the films Blade Runner and Total Recall.
