Cult '60s sci-fi series The Champions is to be adapted for the big screen.
Pan's Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro has signed up to write and direct the movie version for United Artists.
The show ran for 30 episodes on ITV between 1968 and '69, and has recently been broadcast again on digital channel ITV4.
It starred Stuart Damon, Alexandra Bastedo and William Gaunt as government spies rescued by an advanced civilization when their plane crashed in the Himalayas. The civilisation left them with powers "to the limits of known human abilities", including telepathy and the ability to see into the future.
The series was produced by Lew Grade's ITC company, which was also responsible for The Saint, The Prisoner and Thunderbirds.
Del Toro is currently working on Hellboy 2: The Golden Army.
