Crowe replacing Pitt in 'State of Play'?

Rex Features

Russell Crowe has been asked to consider replacing Brad Pitt in a movie version of the BBC's political drama State of Play after Pitt dropped out last week.

Pitt pulled out of the starring role because he had concerns over the script, which tells the story of a journalist whose investigatation into a woman's death leads him to a politician friend.

Now Crowe is considering taking on the part of the journalist, while Edward Norton and Dame Helen Mirren are still attached to the movie.

Actors Bill Nighy and John Simm appeared in the original TV series.
