Jake Gyllenhaal has agreed to star in a biopic of '60s American football star Joe Namath.
Namath, who played for the New York Jets, is considered the sport's first modern superstar.
He was the star player in Superbowl III, was paid record-breaking salaries and became a popular figure for advertisers in the US.
He was also notorious for spending large amounts of time causing trouble in New York clubs and spending his money on women and clothes.
The movie's script will be finished by David Hollander after the WGA strikes finish.
Meanwhile, Gyllenhaal is working with Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman on Brothers, and a movie about moon exploration with Doug Liman.
