The film will tell the story of the Italian fashion dynasty, following the life of Maurizio Gucci.
Maurizio famously battled the company founder Guccio Gucci for control of the fashion label and was shot dead outside his apartment in Milan in 1995.
The fashion label was making $500 million (£240 million) annual profit during the 1980s.
Charles Randolph will produce the script once the US writers' strike ends.
There is currently no fixed release date or title for the project.
