The online edition of Radar quoted a source at Viacom as saying that Spielberg was unhappy and intended to quit the studio he co-founded 13 years ago. The insider reportedly said, "He's gone, and he's not going to be missed", and claimed that Viacom chief Sumner Redstone wished to sever connections with Spielberg as he did with Tom Cruise last year.
But the director's spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter: "Radar's radar kind of bounced off an incorrect source."
He also told Radar: "This story is incorrect. Everybody who knows the DreamWorks deal and the Spielberg deal at Viacom knows that he is fireproof."
However, the magazine refused to back down, saying it "stands by its source".
