Christian Bale has begun talks to appear alongside Johnny Depp in Michael Mann's Public Enemies.
According to Variety, Bale is being lined up for the role of Melvin Purvis, the famous FBI agent who orchestrated the capture of American bank robber John Dillinger.
Depp will star as Dillinger in the movie, which is due to begin shooting in March.
Mann's movie is based on Brian Burrough's non-fiction book Public Enemies: America's Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-34.
