'Atonement'

Atonement has picked up 14 nominations for this year's BAFTA Film Awards.

The World War II romantic drama scored acting nods for stars Keira Knightley and James McAvoy, as well as earning recognition for director Joe Wright.

It takes on No Country For Old Men and There Will Be Blood, each of which received nine nominations, for Best Film. German movie The Lives of Others and Ridley Scott's American Gangster complete the category.

McAvoy is up against There Will Be Blood star Daniel Day-Lewis, George Clooney (Michael Clayton), Viggo Mortensen (Eastern Promises) and Ulrich Muhe (The Lives of Others) for Best Actor.

Meanwhile, Keira Knightley faces stiff competition from Cate Blanchett (Elizabeth: The Golden Age), Julie Christie (Away from Her), Marion Cotillard (La Vie En Rose) and Ellen Page (Juno).

La Vie en Rose, The Bourne Ultimatum, American Gangster, The Lives of Others and Michael Clayton all received more than five nominations each.

The winners will be revealed at a ceremony at the Royal Opera House in London on February 10.
