Scarlett Johansson is to try her hand at directing on new film New York, I Love You.

The movie is a collection of 12 short love stories set in the city, each with a different face at the helm.

Woody Allen will oversee the project, although it is believed he will not direct a section himself.

Johansson has starred in several of Allen's films in the past, including Match Point and Scoop. However, he has denied that he considers her his muse, saying: "I'm grateful when they [say that], but it isn't true."

Scrubs star Zach Braff is rumoured to be in talks to direct one of the stories in the movie, along with Anthony Minghella, Brett Ratner and Mira Nair.

New York, I Love You is scheduled for release later this year.

Johansson recently announced that she will release her first album in May.
