The Andrew Jarecki-helmed film tells the story of a member of a New York real estate dynasty (Gosling) who becomes involved with a girl from the poor side of town (Dunst).
Dunst's character later disappears under mysterious circumstances in the movie, which is scheduled to begin shooting in April.
Gosling is also rumoured to be taking over the role of CIA analyst Jack Ryan in new film By Any Means Necessary.
According to Moviehole, previous director Philip Noyce has revealed that Gosling will play the character as neither he nor Harrison Ford are returning to the franchise.
The actor recently pulled out of Peter Jackson's adaptation of The Lovely Bones and was replaced by Mark Wahlberg.
