The National Enquirer claims that the singer, a staunch Democrat supporter, pleaded with Brolin not to appear in the Oliver Stone-directed film.
A source said: "Barbra thinks this movie will show a side to George W. Bush that draws sympathy from the public and she does not think Bush deserves anything positive.
"She is very passionate about politics. She's mortified that America would think anyone in her family was right wing."
The insider added: "Josh is not backing down. The chance to work with Oliver Stone is a tremendous break for [him]."
The No Country for Old Men star is the son of James Brolin, whom Streisand married in 1998.
