South Korean singer Rain will play the lead role in the Warner Bros film Ninja Assassin.

The movie will be produced by Joel Silver and Larry and Andy Wachowski. V for Vendetta's James McTeigue is in line to direct.

The 25-year-old popstar, whose real name is Jung Ji-hoon, has recently ventured into acting with roles in Park Chan-wook's I'm A Cyborg, But That's OK and the upcoming Wachowskis film Speed Racer.

Rain is recording a cover of 'Kungfu Fighting' for this summer's animated movie Kung Fu Panda and is involved in musical events for the Beijing Olympics.
