Abigail Breslin has signed up for new movie My Sister's Keeper after two of the original stars dropped out.

Variety reports that Dakota Fanning quit after objecting to having her hair shaved to play a girl with cancer, prompting her sister Elle to follow.

Breslin, who received an Oscar nomination for Little Miss Sunshine, will take over Elle's role, while Sofia Vassilieva (Medium) is in talks to replace Dakota.

Breslin, 11, will play a girl conceived to provide blood and bone marrow for her older sister (Vassilieva), who was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of two. She later sues for emancipation from her parents in order to make her own decisions about how her body is used.

The New Line drama is directed by Nick Cassavetes from the novel by Jodi Picoult. It also stars Cameron Diaz, Alec Baldwin, and Joan Cusack.

Filming is due to begin next month.
