Jeff Kinney's children's book Diary of a Wimpy Kid will be made into a film by Fox 2000.
The story tracks the adventures of middle school student Gregg Heffley as he makes his way through the academic year.
The book, which shifts from written prose to cartoon illustrations, was first published on the website FunBrain before being picked up by Abrams books.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid is the first of five planned books for the series.
Former Walt Disney Pictures president Nina Jacobson will produce the film, which is currently seeking a writer and director.
