Maria Bello has revealed to MTV that there will be further sequels in Universal's Mummy franchise.

The 40-year-old, who stars as Evelyn Carnahan O'Connell in this summer's The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, has said she is signed for three more sequels.

"I don't know when, but it's going. [There will] absolutely be The Mummy 4," said Bello.

Bello took over the role of action hero Rick O'Connell's wife from Rachel Weisz after the Oscar winner decided she didn't want to return for a third Mummy film.

"I think Rachel is so brilliant, and she was beautiful in that part, but they wrote my character so differently, I felt like it was a totally different woman," Bello said. "She has the same name, but she's quite a different character."

The A History of Violence star also praised director Rob Cohen for bringing a fresh outlook to the series.

"Let me tell you, I like the other two movies. I love this movie. It's so dynamic and like nothing you've ever seen. Rob Cohen has so changed the franchise."
