Joshua Jackson wants 'Spider-Man' role

Former Dawson's Creek star Joshua Jackson has revealed he would like to play Spider-Man if Tobey Maguire doesn't return for the upcoming superhero sequel.

Speaking to MTV, Jackson said Spider-Man was the superhero role that most interested him.

"Honestly, out of the big superheroes the guy that I would most naturally be a fit to play is Spider-Man, but that one is pretty well locked up," the actor said. "And, frankly, I’m too old to play that character because the parable of Spider-Man is the teenager going through puberty."

When told that Tobey Maguire had yet to sign up for Spider-Man 4, Jackson replied: "Well then, yeah. That was really subtle of me putting my name in the hat."

The 29-year-old also admitted he came close to playing Batman.

"I went and did the screen test. I was one the last four or five guys [up for the role of Batman]."

He added: "I don’t like to lose any job, but they cast the right guy. I mean, Christian Bale was excellent."

Jackson recently signed to star in Fox's sci-fi drama Fringe, a two-hour pilot from JJ Abrams, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.
