Spider-Man director Sam Raimi has signed on to produce a feature film based on Douglas TenNapel's graphic novel Monster Zoo.

The film focuses on an ancient idol that awakes and mutates caged animals. A group of teenagers unite to try to stop the idol from destroying the world.

Raimi will produce the film with Josh Donen through his Buckaroo Entertainment company. Ellen Goldsmith Vein is also producing the film, which is currently seeking a writer.

TenNapel previously sold his graphic novel Tommysaurus Rex to Universal for $1 million and Creature Tech to Regency.

Raimi is currently preparing to direct Universal's horror film Drag Me to Hell with Alison Lohman and Justin Long.
