Bale, who will appear as Batman for the second time in this summer's The Dark Knight, told Entertainment Weekly: "I would like very much to complete a trilogy. And I think that knowing the story of The Dark Knight, it leaves you anticipating something that really can get very, very interesting for a third."
However, the 34-year-old admitted he would find it hard to come back to the franchise if director Christopher Nolan wasn't involved.
"Is Chris going to be doing it? Because to me I find it tricky to imagine working on it without it being a collaboration with Chris."
Director Nolan was less committal, saying he had "no clue" if there would be another Batman film.
