Schwimmer ditches acting for directing

David Schwimmer is putting acting on the backburner to pursue a career as a director.

The 41-year-old, who played Ross Geller on Friends for ten years, said he had not been tempted to appear in his feature film directorial debut Run, Fat Boy, Run.

The comedy stars Hot Fuzz actor Simon Pegg as a man who tries to win back his former fiancée (Thandie Newton) by running a marathon.

Speaking at the US premiere in LA, Schwimmer said: "I really didn't think about acting in [Fat Boy] - I just want to focus all my energy on one thing, directing."

He previously helmed several episodes of Friends and spin-off Joey.
