Paramount Pictures has bought David Grann's forthcoming non-fiction book Lost City of Z, which tells the story of Col. Percy Harrison Fawcett.
It is thought that Pitt will play the British explorer, who disappeared with his party in 1925 while searching for the City of Z, reports Variety.
Various adventurers have attempted to retrace his path over the last 70 years without success.
The book, based on Grann's September 2005 article in the New Yorker, will be published next February.
