SAG, AMPTP to start negotiations

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) has announced that it will start negotiations for a new contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers (AMPTP) on April 15, says The Hollywood Reporter.

"Now that we have concluded our wages and working conditions process and the SAG National Board has approved our proposal package, we look forward to productive negotiations," said SAG national executive director Doug Allen.

SAG and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) will hold separate discussions with AMPTP over a new contract. In the past, the two unions have renegotiated a new contract together but have decided to come to a new deal separately after disputes over jurisdiction.

SAG has been eager to beat AFTRA to the negotiating table as they felt it would allow them to better dictate the terms of the next actors' union contracts.

The current deals expire on June 30 and, if no deal is reached before then, actors could hold a strike similar to last year's WGA walkout.
