Holofcener will write and direct the movie, which revolves around a couple (Platt and Catherine Keener) who live next door to an elderly woman whose New York apartment they own.
They are waiting for their neighbour to die so they can reclaim the property but their plans are compromised when they form a relationship with her granddaughters (Peet and Hall).
Sony Pictures Classics will finance and distribute the project worldwide as they did with Holofcener's previous outing Friends With Money, claims The Hollywood Reporter.
Shooting begins next month in New York with a target finishing date ahead of a possible Screen Actors Guild strike this summer.
