The 14-year-old will star in Mostly Ghostly, based on R.L. Stine's pre-teen books about a boy with ghosts living in his bedroom.
A spokesperson said: "Ali has been cast in the film as a popular high school student, emulating the type of role played by sister Lindsay in the 2004 comedy Mean Girls."
Ali told Teen Vogue: "I grew up watching Lindsay. It made me want to do what she does. Being there, being on camera or on stage."
She is also working on E! reality TV show Living Lohan with mum Dina and has her own album in the pipeline.
The teenager auditioned for a role in High School Musical 3 earlier this year.
