'X-Files' creator given sequel ultimatum

Speaking to Access Hollywood, Carter confessed: "The reason to come back and do another X-Files movie is because Fox said, 'if you don't do it now...'
"After six years would be too long to revisit the characters and the enthusiasm for the concept may have waned, so we chose now."
Carter also claimed that a strong desire from stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson to return to their X-Files characters helped push the movie into production.
"I think it required Fox putting a gun to my head, David being enthusiastic about coming back, and knowing Gillian was enthusiastic," Carter said. "It was those things, plus the fans telling us to come back, I think that was the deal."
The X-Files: I Want to Believe will open on August 1.
