Paltrow: 'Iron Man' was for the pay cheque

Rex Features

Gwyneth Paltrow has admitted that she took on a role in comic book blockbuster Iron Man to earn a decent pay cheque.

The 35-year-old claimed that for the past six years she has been appearing in small, low-budget films for little money.

Paltrow is quoted as saying: "I basically stopped making money from films in 2002. All the things I have done since then have been things I really wanted to do.

"And I have not made money from them."

Iron Man, in which Paltrow plays the love interest of Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark, is released on Friday.
