Speaking to the Daily Express, Paltrow said: "I've been away from Hollywood for a long time and so I'm pleased to have been remembered and given this opportunity."
"There are so many younger, prettier actresses in Hollywood that I didn't think producers would pick me.
"Movie stars of the past, such as Ginger Rogers and Paulette Goddard, didn’t have children because they were scared; too frightened that taking time out would ruin their star status, so opted for work over family.
"Hollywood does have a short memory and can forget you but I’m happy things have changed now and actresses can have both."
Paltrow appears as Pepper Potts in Iron Man, which is released in cinemas tomorrow.
