Sarandon: 'I'm so critical of myself'

Susan Sarandon has admitted that she hates watching herself on screen.

The actress said she was happy to take a smaller role in adventure movie Speed Racer because she could see it without being too conscious of her own performance.

She is quoted as saying: "Most of the time when I watch a movie I'm in, it takes me about three times before I can see it because I'm so critical of myself.

"I'm not in Speed Racer so much so it was very painless for me to watch it. It's easier for me, because there's so much of it that I'm not in, that I can watch it and really enjoy it without having my ego involved."

She added: "It was a movie by these genius guys [the Wachowski brothers], so it was an exercise in surrendering my ego to the bigger picture, and that's a very interesting challenge in this point in my life."

Speed Racer, which also stars Emile Hirsch, Christina Ricci and John Goodman, is currently at number two in the US box office chart.
