Daniel Day-Lewis is in talks to join the cast of Rob Marshall's musical Nine.

Day-Lewis is looking to take the role of Guido Contini, an Italian director based on Federico Fellini who battles through a personal crisis while trying to juggle the women in his life.

The There Will Be Blood star would assume the role vacated by Javier Bardem, who dropped out of Nine citing fatigue and stress caused by the busy awards season.

Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Sophia Loren, Nicole Kidman and Judi Dench will also star in the film.

Marshall previously directed the Oscar-winning Chicago.
