The movie will chronicle the events following the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms's attempt to execute a search warrant at a ranch belonging to the Branch Davidian cult near Waco, Texas. A subsequent gun battle led to the deaths of four agents and six Davidians.
A 51-day siege by the FBI ended when the compound was destroyed by fire, killing cult leader David Koresh and 76 of his followers.
Waco will be helmed by The Fog director Rupert Wainwright from a script he co-wrote with James Hibberd.
Filming is scheduled to begin in October.
