McGregor to star in Earhart biopic

The actor will join Hilary Swank, Richard Gere and Virginia Madsen in Fox Searchlight's Amelia, reports Variety.
The film chronicles the aviator's career and turbulent relationship with publisher-promoter George Putnam (Gere), as well as her affair with Gene Vidal (McGregor), father of author Gore Vidal.
Earhart disappeared in 1937 over the Pacific Ocean while attempting to circumnavigate the globe.
Mira Nair will direct the movie from a script by Ronald Bass.
