Speaking to Le Grand Journal at this year's festival, the Pulp Fiction director said: "The next movie I'm doing is my World War II movie Inglorious Bastards.
"I actually just finished the first draft of the script and when I get home I'll be finishing it up… and if all goes well, I will be here in 2009 at Cannes with my war film Inglorious Bastards!"
Michael Madsen is reportedly attached to star in the film, which follows a group of US soldiers facing execution by firing squad. The soldiers are given the chance to redeem themselves by going on a dangerous mission in Nazi-occupied France.
Tarantino first started work on the Inglorious Bastards script after the 1997 release of Jackie Brown.
