Clint: 'Jolie compares to Hollywood greats'

Rex Features

Clint Eastwood has compared Angelina Jolie to Hollywood icons from the '40s.

Eastwood, who directed Jolie in his new film Changeling, revealed to Empire that she reminded him of stars from Hollywood's bygone age such as Katharine Hepburn.

He said of Jolie: "She's wonderful, she's wonderful. To me it's like she's a throwback to the women in film of the '40s. Not to say the women today aren't great, but back then there was more individuality, all the faces were different.

"They didn't have the same Botox look. Angelina has that great individuality, her own look and her own style, and she's a terrific actress besides. I think she would have been just as big a name in that era, the same as Katharine Hepburn, Bette Davis and Ingrid Bergman."

Changeling, which premiered at this year's Cannes Film Festival, focuses on a woman whose son is abducted in the 1920s. When he is returned, she begins to suspect that the child isn't hers.
