The director said he refuses to read reviews or predictions when his movies open, insisting that he is only interested in hearing the weekend box office tally.
He told Hollywood Today: "My ritual is a total blackout, like a sequestered jury. No radio, no telephone, no internet, no newspapers.
"I don't want to hear anything until Monday morning. I just want to hear one number, which is the Monday morning number."
The fourth instalment in the franchise took $126 million in its first weekend in the US, the sixth highest Memorial Day opening of all time.
