Michael Bay's robot action film scooped the best movie award at the event held at Universal Studios last night. Despite a nearby fire that damaged several soundstages and buildings, the ceremony, which hands out awards based on fans' votes, continued as planned.
Johnny Depp took home two prizes: the best comedic performance for Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End and best villain gong for Sweeney Todd.
Will Smith won the male performance award for his role in I Am Legend.
"I haven't always made great movies but I've been trying real hard," Smith said. "I've dedicated my life to creating and trying to do things that are different."
Ellen Page grabbed the female trophy for playing the lead in Jason Reitman's comedy Juno.
Iron Man picked up a new award for the best summer movie so far. Accepting the prize, director Jon Favreau said: "If you think this award is ridiculous, when Swingers won, we were followed by Chewbacca winning the lifetime achievement award."
This year's recipient of the lifetime achievement prize was comic Adam Sandler.
Superbad led the nominations, appearing in five categories, but went home empty handed, as did Enchanted and Knocked Up.
