Rex Features/20th Century Fox
The film is based on the first novel in crime author John MacDonald's Travis McGee series. Fox believes the books can be turned into a film franchise.
The 21 novels feature McGee, a bachelor living on a houseboat, tracking down property and money for his clients and pocketing half their value in return.
In The Deep Blue Good-by, the character searches for hidden treasure buried by a World War II soldier.
Fleder previously directed Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead, Kiss The Girls and Runaway Jury. His next film, college football drama The Express, will be released in October.
