Reese Witherspoon named best actress

After thanking the band led by Bill Conti, the host introduces John Travolta to present the award for outstanding achievement in cinematography. And the Oscar goes to...the Memoirs of a Geisha team again, with Dion Beebe accepting the award from Travolta.
It's been good night for the movie so far, now having scooped the awards for best costume, art direction and cinematography.
Now Jamie Foxx takes the limelight as he announces the nominees for the best actress in a leading role: Judi Dench (Mrs Henderson Presents), Charlize Theron (North Country), Keira Knightley (Pride & Prejudice), Reese Witherspoon (Walk The Line) and Felicity Huffman (Transamerica).
And the Oscar (quite rightly) goes to... Reese Witherspoon. Making her character June Carter equally compelling as Joaquin Phoneix's Johnny Cash in Walk The Line, the honour is well deserved. Unfortunately the poor woman's on the verge of tears but then with the backing music they're using behind the acceptance speeches it's hard to blame her.
