'Inbetweeners' sequel won't be driven by money, says Greg Davies

By
Greg Davies has said that the financial success of The Inbetweeners Movie will not convince the writers to make a sequel.

The comedian, who played Mr Gilbert in the sitcom and movie spinoff, told Digital Spy that Iain Morris and Damon Beesley will only return to the characters if they are confident about making something good.

"I would imagine there'd be a lot of pressure on people if there's that amount of interest and financial backing," Davies said.

"Knowing the writers, I don't think they would do something for those reasons. I think they would only put pen to paper if they thought it would be good. That's why it is good."

The writers and cast of the show recently laughed off rumours that that a sequel is already being planned.

The Inbetweeners Movie took more than £20 million at the UK box office in its first week of release.

Davies added of the film's success: "I'm just like a kid in all this, really. I'm just so excited to be part of it. It's a cliché, but it's true. I'm just so thrilled to be part of it.

"I never dreamt I would be in a film - even walking in the background uninvited. I never thought I'd make it into an actual film in the cinema. It's just brilliant. It's just so exciting to be part of."

Greg Davies releases stand-up DVD Firing Cheeseballs At A Dog on November 14.
