Nico Mirallegro lands first movie role

Nico Mirallegro has bagged his first movie role following his departure from Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks.

PA reports that the 19-year-old actor , who has starred as Barry 'Newt' Newton in the teen serial for three years, will join the cast of McQueen.

Ex-Coronation Street star Tina O'Brien, Shameless lead Ciaran Griffiths and Waterloo Road's Linzey Cocker have reportedly also been confirmed for the film.

"It's about suburban life in Manchester in the '90s. It's a good cast and it should be really good," Mirallegro said.

Since leaving Hollyoaks, Mirallegro has filmed nine episodes of BBC One's weekday hospital serial Doctors.
