We reminisce below over the humble Aussie acting beginnings of other Hollywood actors and actresses - and see which soaps spawned the most successful stars:
Chris Hemsworth played Jamie Kane in Neighbours back in 2002 and was in Home and Away as Kim Hyde from 2004 to 2007. The Aussie actor has since appeared in Hollywood blockbusters like Thor and The Avengers, and most recently played the late James Hunt in Ron Howard's Rush.
Also pictured above, Isabel Lucas appeared in Home and Away as Tasha Andrews from 2003 to 2007. She has since gone on to star in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Daybreakers with Ethan Hawke, and Immortals alongside Henry Cavill and Mickey Rourke.
Melissa George was always there for us at the end of the school day from 1993 to 1996, playing Angel Parrish in Home and Away. She has since starred most notably since in David Lynch's Mulholland Drive, HBO's In Treatment alongside Gabriel Byrne, and Christopher Smith's Triangle. The actress was also the lead in BBC's spy drama Hunted. Those plaits take us back...
It's Vinnie! Ryan Kwanten was the loveable Vinnie Patterson in Home and Away from 1992 to 2002. He hit the big time in HBO's sexy vampire show True Blood playing Jason Stackhouse, the brother to Anna Paquin's lead character Sookie.
Guy Pearce appeared in Neighbours and Home and Away before becoming a critically-acclaimed Hollywood actor. Pearce played Mike Young from '86 to '89, before appearing in Home and Away as David Croft in 1991. The Emmy Award-winning actor has subsequently starred in Memento, LA Confidential, Animal Kingdom and The King's Speech.
Russell Crowe played Kenny Larkin in Neighbours (pictured here with Jason Donovan and a mighty mullet) back in 1987. The New Zealand-born actor went on to win an Academy Award for his role in Ridley Scott's Gladiator, and was also celebrated for his roles in LA Confidential, A Beautiful Mind, American Gangster and Les Miserables.
The late Heath Ledger starred as Scott Irwin in Home and Away in 1997. The star won a posthumous Oscar for his role as the Joker in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight. Ledger also won critical acclaim for Brokeback Mountain and starred in cult teen movie 10 Things I Hate About You.
Kylie Minogue played Charlene Robinson (née Mitchell) (we recently marked 25 years since Kylie and Jason Donovan's famous union on the soap) from 1986 to '88. The actress, singer and current The Voice coach went on to star in Street Fighter with Jean-Claude Van Damme - during which sparks flew apparently - Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge! and Leos Carax's Holy Motors.
Holly Valance hit the small screen as Felicity (or to us Flick) Scully in Neighbours from 1999 to 2000. The singer and actress went on to feature as Nika Volek in Fox's Prison Break and as Sheerah in Taken with Liam Neeson.
Isla Fisher began her career as Shannon Reed in Home and Away from 1994 to '97. The actress, married to Sacha Baron Cohen, has since starred in I Heart Huckabees, Wedding Crashers and The Great Gatsby. She also recently guest-starred in Ron Howard's cult comedy TV show Arrested Development.

Radha Mitchell played Catherine O'Brien in Neighbours from 1994 to 1997. She later secured a role in Pitch Black with Vin Diesel, followed by parts in Phone Booth, Man on Fire, Finding Neverland and Silent Hill.
We'd forgotten that Julian McMahon first appeared on our small screens in Home and Away as Ben Lucini for a year from 1990. He's since gone on to star in Fantastic Four and as the lead in Ryan Murphy's Emmy award-winning drama Nip/Tuck for seven years from 2003.
Anyone who went to school between 1985 and 1993 knows Alan Dale as the much-loved Jim Robinson in Neighbours. Since then the actor has starred in films such as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, as well as putting together an impressive television CV that includes 24, The OC, Lost, Ugly Betty and the US remake of The Killing .
We have to say Home and Away wins!
