The actor was speaking at a Beverly Hills event held to celebrate a two-hour special of the series which was filmed in Africa and will air in both the UK and US next week.
"I've been ready for years," Sutherland said, before cautioning that a film may still be some time in the making.
"I think from the writers' perspective it's so hard to get through a season and the second we end they start on the next one, but I certainly hope we will one day because I would love to tackle the idea of a 24-hour day represented in a two-hour film," he said.
Executive producer and director Jon Cassar revealed that he is not ruling it out as an option, saying: "There's always talk, but we probably have to wait until the television show is over and then deal with a feature film."
The show's seventh series is scheduled to begin in the UK in the New Year, while two-hour special 24: Redemption will air November 23 in the US and November 24 in the UK.
