The actor, who portrayed CTU operative Jack Bauer across 8 seasons on Fox, told Extra that the big screen spin-off "won’t start shooting for about eight months".
He said: "It’s a very difficult thing to take something that you’ve done for eight years, almost 200 episodes, and try and find a story that’s going to be unique and yet service the history of the show as well. That is to be expected. So we start shooting hopefully by next December or January."
Asked about changes to Billy Ray's script, which was rejected by Fox executives, Sutherland said: "I think it will [change] up until the day we start shooting, and probably from that point forward, too."
Sutherland recently admitted that he is also working on ideas for a return to primetime television.
