McFly's recent ballsiness seems to be paying off. Since releasing their Greatest Hits album at the end of last year, the pop four-piece have kissed goodbye to their label, toughened up their sound and hatched a rather unusual plan for distributing their new album. But the fans are riding the changes with them. 'One For The Radio', the boys' first single on their own Super Records, is on course to become their eighth No.1 on Sunday.

It's not a done deal of course, with Dizzee 'n' Calvin and Kid Rock giving good chase behind them, but McFly are in the lead at the moment. This bodes well for new album radio:ACTIVE, which comes free with this Sunday's edition of the Mail on Sunday. radio:ACTIVE, the boys believe, will be the disc to bag them new fans who aren't 15, female and prone to giving themselves ink poisoning by scrawling 'I LUV DOUGIE!' on their wrists. "There are loads of people out there who would love our stuff," Harry from the group told DS recently, "but they've never given us a chance because they pigeonhole us a boyband or something".

Could McFly's plan work? Well, we've heard five tracks from the new album and all but one is stronger than 'One For The Radio', which is certainly a good sign. We're not really meant to write about this, but one song on radio:ACTIVE is a proper fist-pumping stadium anthem that dads across the country will love - as long as they can get over the name on the CD cover. It all depends, we suppose, on how open-minded they're feeling after their coffee and croissants this Sunday.
