You probably know Hayden Panettiere from Heroes. She plays Claire Bennet, the All American gal who's blessed with the power of "rapid cellular regeneration", meaning her finger grows back if she chops it off and her leg heals straight away if she breaks it. It's needlessly gory and all a bit silly, but Hayden's character is generally a lot of fun.

Anyway, having recorded a few songs for film soundtracks in recent years, Hayden's now eyeing up a pop career. She's bagged a record deal with Hollywood Records, the home of Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers and Hilary Duff, and her debut single was premiered on Ryan Seacrest's radio show this morning. You can give it a listen by clicking here.

The good news is that 'Wake Up Call' isn't terrible. The bad news is that it's not very good either. It's a rather forgettable reggae-pop tune that sounds a bit like something from Rihanna's first album and a bit like 'Stars Are Blind' by Paris Hilton. The lyrics, essentially about giving a useless boyfriend a kick up the arse, are a touch more interesting. "I think I'm gonna have to cheat to keep your eyes on me," Hayden sings at one point. Poor Milo, eh?

Thankfully, there is a silver living. Hayden's no Leona, but she can certainly hold a tune and her vocals do show a reasonable amount of personality. Furthermore, she's described her forthcoming debut album as "eclectic", offering hope that it might feature some decent tunes as well as B-list fare like 'Wake Up Call'.
