Britney Spears will spend the summer working on her sixth studio album, according to Jive Records.

The popstar's label released a statement confirming that she is progressing with the follow-up to 2007's Blackout LP.

"[Spears] is spending her summer in the recording studio, working on a brand new album," said her management.

"She's working with a team of top-notch producers and songwriters and we're very excited about what she's accomplished so far. No album release date has been confirmed yet."

Blackout, which debuted at number two on the US Billboard chart, has reportedly only sold 879,000 copies in America.
