If we're being honest, the prospect of listening to the new track from maudlin Coldplay clones Keane on a Monday morning filled us with dread. They've even copied Chris Martin's crew and made the lead single from their impending Perfect Symmetry album available for free from their official website. It's very nice of them do so, but does anyone actually care what the polite Sussex trio have to offer?

Normally, we'd answer this question with a resounding "No!". However, the group's third album is actually promising to be quite an interesting listen. Recorded in LA, Berlin, Paris and London, with a little bit of assistance from electro-pop maestro Stuart Price (Madonna/Gwen Stefani), the guys have promised the record will "ignore the rules of good taste".

True to their word, 'Spiralling' is a massive departure from the piano ballads of old. With loads of squelchy synths and some Scissor Sisters-style "Boooh!" shout-outs, it's a vibrant, shiny pop tune that's a world away from their usual MOR rock. Tom Chaplin even goes a bit Freddie Mercury at one point, bellowing: "Did you wanna be a winner? Did you wanna be an icon? Did you wanna be famous?" It's a brave choice of release that could scare off their traditional fanbase, but plenty of others will be questioning their preconceptions about the band after hearing it.
