"Is Jack and Alicia's Bond theme any good?" No.
Bingo-Wings, Cambridge on September 26th, 2008
It is fantastic! Ok, we're all disappointed Winehouse didn't pull it out the bag, maybe next time.. But this is a great substitute: It's raw, it's slick, it ticks all those brassy Bond boxes. I love it! Madonna's was by far the worst EVER.
Ray, Preston on September 22nd, 2008
total and utter cack
Matt, Oxford on September 22nd, 2008
Brilliant... about time we had a stonking Bond theme and this ticks all the boxes for me!!!
Yasmin, Dundee on September 22nd, 2008
It's like marmite, you either love it or hate it and I think it's fantastic! Jack and Alicia's voices sound fantastic together and the typical Jack White guitar riff is pure class.
Paul, Brighton on September 21st, 2008
Chunky, dirty and a bit like a much younger sibling to Wings' "Live & Let Die".... Altho, I would've preferred the Winehouse theme better!
Jack, Mansfield on September 20th, 2008
I really enjoyed the new bond song, i thought it was a great mix and enjoyed the weird combination of Alicia keys and jack white, Who else would you think do a better job? these days
Alex on September 20th, 2008
its hard - i dnt mind the verses but the chorus is awful - i wouldn't use it
Paul Kerton on September 20th, 2008
I like it. I would've preferred it with just Jack White though, I think Alicia Keys pulls the song around too much, and doesn't suit Jack's voice. Those who call it "hip hop" really do not know anything about music, and shame themselves by even mentioning the idea. The same people complaining about this are those who complained about Daniel Craig, and are those who complained about Shatner not being in the new Trek. Get a grip you people.
GARY,SURREY on September 20th, 2008
HEARD IT 5 TIMES AND FORGOTTEN IT ALREADY...LASTED IN MY MEMORY FOR NO MORE THAN 007 SECONDS....HOPE THE FILM MAKES MORE OF AN IMPRESSION....
Ronald, Glasgow on September 20th, 2008
I personally think this is not a bad song, however not as a Bond theme. I think it is a dreadful choice for a Bond theme. Also, I believe that Bond being British it should be a British artist who sings the song and they had a great choice of amazing British singers but yet they went for this abomination. However, there have been many American artists who have done excellent Bond themes in the past so I am not completely against US singers creating Bond themes.
Graham, Teesside on September 20th, 2008
The Casino Royale theme was excellent, and much closer to a classic Bond theme. This new effort is more like the god awful Die Another Day. They should have gave the job to Shirley Bassey or Elton John. A rap song is no good for a Bond movie.
Stevo, Newcastle on September 20th, 2008
Its rubbish. The TOP 5 Bond themes are: 1. "Licence To Kill" - Gladys Knight 2. "Goldfinger" - Shirley Bassey 3. "Die Another Day" - Madonna 4. "GoldenEye" - Tina Turner 5. "Nobody Does It Better" - Carly Simon
Craig, Suffolk on September 20th, 2008
The instrumental version is better. You Know My Name was far more immediate, a great Bond theme. Another Way To Die feels like what it is, a rushed substitute for Amy Winehouse. Like Madonna's disaster the choice is a mistake.
Andrew, Amsterdam on September 20th, 2008
The song, like the earlier Bond theme songs, reflects the music of the time and remains contemporary. It introduces something new to the series and is an intriguing take. I like it because it isn't your generic Bond song - it's creative and original.
Kitty, London on September 20th, 2008
What a shock, brits doing what they do best MOANING. The films have moved on, so should the music! And people think Doctor Who purits are moaners lol!
Brandon, San Jose on September 19th, 2008
Haha... it's fun to read this thread and see the common agreement about what a sham the new theme song is. The gloves are apparantly coming off against Bond even in the UK! I wonder if people also realize that the producers who thought this was a good Bond theme were the same producers that thought Craig would make a good 007. In that regard I think this sort of musical pap actually fits the ordinary & unspectacular Daniel Craig Bond quite well... let me be the first to whisper that this new emperor has no clothes!
Ifan, Caernarfon on September 19th, 2008
Its bloody awful! and is the worst Bond theme to date!
Ian, Runcorn on September 19th, 2008
This is dire! I've heard cats being strangled that sounded more tuneful than this tosh. The tune sounds like it's just all of the old ones mixed together and the less said about the singing the better. I'll be stuffing some ear plugs in for the title sequence I think when I go to see this!!!
Big Dave, Somerset on September 19th, 2008
MUSE WOULD HAVE BEEN WAY BETTER, THE SONG IS UNBELIEVABLY DISSAPOINTING, UNBELIVABLY. SHAME ON WHOEVER DECIDED THIS AS THE THEME.
Katie, Derby on September 19th, 2008
God, I really liked 'You Know My Name' from the last movie, still listening to it. This, however, is just...rubbish. I've listened to it four times now, and although I really want to see the film when it comes out, I actually don't want to have to sit through the credits with this playing. I'm not a huge Winehouse fan either, but odds are that if she'd done one, it would at least be interesting!
Jon, Manchester on September 19th, 2008
the best james Bond songs are all on David Arnold's 'Shaken Not Stirred' compilation CD. Natacha Atlas's version of 'From Russia with Love' is just stunning, as is Leftfield's 'SpaceMarch'. Is David Arnold still involved with the James Bond films? I rather hoped he had better standards than the last two mediocre theme songs...
Pam, London on September 19th, 2008
'What a bloody mess!'? Your first instinct was right - it's a wannabe hiphop throwback to the old Bond form - They've totally reinvented Bond, but maybe White and Keys hadn't noticed.
Junaid, Manchester on September 19th, 2008
LOVE IT!!!! It's slick and modern to keep up with the times and Keys' voice is electrifying - my fave Bond tune ever.
Pete, Essex on September 19th, 2008
I heard it for the first time this morning on Chris Moyles this morning. Having heard the commotion about it yesterday. I'm shocked to say i quite liked it to start with, i think the beginning sounds very much like a it will work really well with the opening sequence. Then you get the Keys and White alternating lines and in all honesty i think vocally Keys should have sung it on her own. Jack White ruins it! He should've turned his mic off and just played the guitar. Shame really as i think it could have been a great theme
Steve, Suffolk on September 19th, 2008
Dreadful song - oh for the days of Duran Duran and 'A View To A Kill'.... It seems every Bond song produced this century has been, well, crap! Having said that, the last one, 'You Know My Name' worked well as an instrumental in 'Casino Royale' - not sure how this one will fair on that front.....
Stuart, Glasgow on September 19th, 2008
Dear Lord Almighty....this has to be the worst SONG - never mind Bond SONG - of the year.....! I hate Jack Whites whiny, grating vocals and Alicia just warbles insignificantly with a few piano flourishes. In the style of Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons.......'Worst...Bond Song....EVER..!'
James, Bath on September 19th, 2008
Goodness, isn't it terrible! It's proper horrorshow. Doesn't bode well for the movie - sounds like thye've rushed it through a bit quick. Either way, what an awful song...
Thomas, Chorleywood on September 19th, 2008
As a song it doesn't work as well as many of the great Bond themes, but I can see it working well when coupled with an appropriate opening sequence.
Mike Kane, Hampshire on September 19th, 2008
A dissapointing first listen to be honest. It doesn't sound like it belongs in a 007 movie, especially the new revival of the franchise by Daniel Craig. I thought Chris Cornell's "You Know My Name" was miles better than this but maybe when this duet is in the finished film, it might be better with a few tweaks. I know this is regarded as a first duet in the series but I thought Alicia Keys was very underused. It's a shame as my hopes for the film is beginning to go into doubt as the trailer and casting of Gemma Arterton were spot on! We shall wait and see...
IainB, Reading on September 19th, 2008
It's a decent effort. I'll happily admit it's not destined to be one of the greats but that said, I think we can all take solace in the fact that this isn't Madonna who had the honour of destorying the best title sequence in all the bond films with her gyrating tencho pop. As for "Another Way To Die", the guitar riffs are very cool and bondish. The lyrics are a little bit bizarre and it just about works. But there's no way a four (near five) minute version of the track is going to appear in the opening credit sequence for this. Most Bond credit sequences are just about three minutes so a little streamlining might be in order. That's my only complaint of the song, it's a little bit too long and that's why inbetween the so-call verses it gets a little uneven. Overall, I'm satisfied with it. Film please.
Justin, Suffolk on September 19th, 2008
Do a search on You Tube for "Quantum of Solace - Proposed Theme Song"! This one is alot better and it is a mickey take! In all seriousness, I think it is a grower, however I do like "Tomorrow Never Dies" theme out of all of them the best!
Alex on September 18th, 2008
My fav. themes were Sheryl Crow's and Madonna's, though the latter wasn't particulary well received as a Bond theme, I love it a lot. Golden eye by Tina Turner was quite good too, actually.
Kenny, Glasgow on September 18th, 2008
Its a bit of a car crash of a song. I've listened to it a few times now trying to find some glimmer of something to like about it. Nope. In the great league table of Bond themes, it just about reaches the heights of A-ha's "The Living Daylights". And that's not a good position.
Andrew, Belfast on September 18th, 2008
"It's no 'Diamonds Are Forever', but at least this is more interesting than Chris Cornell's drab effort from Casino Royale." Haha! Chris Cornell's theme last year absolutely destroys this. His was a proper rocking tune, something which the snobbish DS reviewers never give any consideration to. What happened to your review of Metallica's Death Magnetic, guys? Anyways, this is a pretty poor Bond theme, but I'd rank Cornell's in my top-three, alongside 'Thunderball' and 'Goldeneye'.
Lenor, Manchester on September 18th, 2008
I love it!!!!! its brilliant, people always criticise bond theme songs no matter how good they are!!!! good job jack white n alicia!
Sad Panda, Sunderland on September 18th, 2008
It's a load of utter tosh, It's the first bond theme I haven't liked from all 22 films. Which is a shame as "You Know My Name" is probably the best one they've done. I hope this isn't a bad omen for the film.
Chelsea, Warrington on September 18th, 2008
i think it sparkles like a glitterball. when i hear it i feel like dancing like crazy!! and they are the cutest couple! they should go out together. love it and makes me want to watch bond to see the dancing.
Dee, Leeds on September 18th, 2008
Wait... What? Chris Cornell's effort is often ranked as one of the best Bond themes! This one? Around the middle.
