Katy Perry: 'Hot N Cold'

Whether it's kissing girls, jumping in cakes or posing with knives, Katy Perry knows a thing or two about making the headlines. Whether this is genuine rock rebellion or just a series of tacky stunts doesn't really matter when it's carried off so effectively. All publicity is good publicity, as the saying goes, and Perry is hoping to cash in by releasing a second serving of feisty pop in the shape of 'Hot N Cold'.

Sticking to the pop-rock template laid down by Avril Lavigne and Pink, this track doesn't live up to the hype surrounding its singer, but the choppy guitars and whooshing synths have a certain charm. The spunky lyrics and fuzzy pop soundtrack suit Perry's distinctive vocals, ensuring 'Hot N Cold' should prove as popular with radio programmers as 'I Kissed A Girl'. Like her or not, it looks like she's going to be around for a while yet.
